Get your rocks off

Once and only once a year you can get your rocks off here.

Seriously.

For a three hour window the city opens up a big lot by the side of the river and everyone loads up all the rocks they have collected from their fields over the course of a year (in all sorts of containers but mostly empty fertiliser bags) and head down to the site. It's a one way route with attendants and as each car finishes offloading and leaves the next car is directed into the vacated space.

I was a little shy to take photos properly (and also it was so well run I really had no time) but here goes:

In the rock drop off traffic jam

Out the back window of our truck looking at the rock pile

Long view of the whole process (all those white trucks in a line) from my neighbourhood.

Seriously it was amazingly efficient and I couldn't believe how many people collect rocks from their fields all year!

And us? No, we don't collect the rocks. I use them to hold the mulch down and as weights around the place. We were asked to take the rock collection of a neighbour there as he has given up driving and we have a truck. As I am very very happy he has given up driving as he is half deaf, has limited sight and also gets confused easily I was MORE than happy to oblige.

What happens with the rocks then?

Good to see/read you again!
