another first...

First snow day to walk to school.

Only they didn't.

Because Amy has never walked to school in the snow before and it was still snowing when we all woke up and Monday is extreme lugging day as, as well as the usual school bag, they carry their PE kit, library bag, school lunch bag (apron, mask and cap) and musical instrument (recorder for Meg, pianica for Amy) and I just thought we should try and get Amy to school in one piece and not soaking wet and shivering as she had slid and slipped her way down the hill.
Of course they have snowboots with built in spikes.
But of course being daredevil young ratbags Meg and her walking partner retract their spikes till they get to the bottom of the hill so they can slide down the mountain on black ice.
Just so their mummies can have a few more gray hairs and freak outs each morning, right?
And I just know that Amy is gonna try this too.
And putting that off a day is just fine with me.
But they didn't miss out on sliding after all as the car slid going down the hill.  Not a lot but just a wibble wobble.
Did I mention how much I loooove winter?

Today was just awful! I am already counting down the days until March when it's just a smidge warmer, right? RIGHT? Seriously if today was any kind of reflection of the next 3 months to come, I may be banging down the hospital door in a week or two and begging to be hospitalized all winter just to hibernate!

Wow! Karuizawa is still waiting for snow. We just got a tiny bit so far. My dog and I absolutely love the snow... so much prettier than dead brown blah... and as an LA native, I can't get enough of it... but I see how you'd be terrified of the girls sliding around on black ice. Driving is so scary too.

Brenda- only a week to winter solstice and then every day wil be a smidge better than the one before right? right???? Climate controlled hospitals do have something going for them, hey? when I was in over summer for a month it was really hard coming home though- got very used to a steady 22 degrees and 50% humidity!

Akiko- wow, I thought Karuizawa would have metres by now. You guys are the coldest of the main cities in Nagano though right? Brrrrrr! My neighbour's dog loves the snow too. I ca't understand it, I mean they don't even have shoes on right? Brrrrr! Snow definitely beats the brown blahhs though, yeah?

It's about half melted now and the other half is frozen so not so pretty anymore....
