Summer that is.
As soon as I see these flowers I know summer is finally over:
I think in English they're spider lilies but in Japanese they are higan-bana. Higan is the Buddhist festival around the Autumn (and Spring by the by) equinox. Even though the calendar has us a month into Autumn already, Summer in Nagano is lovely and tends to be nice and ignore the calendar and keep us happy and warm and sun-soaked for longer.
But, when these flowers come out, it's over.
Much as I think they are really beautiful looking flowers (more like fireworks than spiders I reckon but anyway) they make me sad for what they say about the change of the seasons.
Sob, sob, sob.
Still, I know summer has to end sometime, right?
And it has been a pretty fabulous summer.
And as long as I survive winter it will be Spring and then summer again soon enough, right?
These flowers come out at the same time and therefore should make me sad too right?
But for some reason they are just too innocuous to have negative feelings about.
