"Hi Heather! Do you know what day it is today?"
Agh!? Started panicking. What have I forgotten?
Old friend's birthday? Not likely as A) we have never celebrated each other's birthdays in the 10 years we've known each other and B) friend is not the 'It's my birthday!' declaring type.
Our old teacher's birthday? University's foundation day? Again, never done anything about those any other year- why now?
April 2nd? Maybe old friend just wanted to know the date? But if you use your phone to text someone you can just check the date on your phone....
02/04/2010. 04/02/2010. 22/04/02. None of those numbers seem particularly funky combinations. And anyway, we're both humanities majors not numbers people...
Getting more and more worried that I had forgotten something important and yet certain I wasn't supposed to be meeting friend today or anything like that (for one thing we live about 5 hours away from each other...) I finally sucked it up and put my pride on the line and replied:
"Ummm no. Is it your birthday? Sorry."
Thankfully my friend responded quickly and put me out of my ulcer inducing angst:
"It's Good Friday! Don't eat meat!"
Seriously?? Don't do that to me!
And for the record? Dinner tonight was polenta with tomato and veggie sauce.
Happy Easter- and what a relief!
