If

If

If Sport's Day has to be cancelled due to torrential rain,

And if you then have to go to an art gallery instead (obvious alternative wouldn't you say?) because that's what Obaachan wants,

And if you then have to eat at a famous, staid, soba restaurant with no kid's meal, crayons or toys for lunch because that's what Ojiichan wants,

And if you then have to visit another art museum because Ojiichan and Obaachan saw the sign on the way to lunch,

Then

Then you are thrilled when the art gallery has a kid's corner with books:

and daddy decided he'd rather read to you than look at the art. And there's a couple of beanbags when the waiting gets tough:

and at lunch, while you wait forever to get your meal because this is a very popular restaurant serving the soba connoisseur who likes to imagine the long wait indicates the chef is out there picking each individual soba grain before grinding it into powder and mixing it up especially, you are forever grateful for the distraction of lunches floating past and even more pleased when it's your lunch arriving by boat on a specially built canal- complete with foghorn to announce it's arrival:

and you are over the moon ecstatic to the tune of forgetting that it's past nap time and you've been on the schedule of two arty soba loving seniors for an entire day- a day you thought you'd be running around and dancing with your friends, a day when the rain stopped for good less than 30 minutes after the cancellation was announced- when you get to the second art gallery and there is a huge outside exhibit with rocks to climb:

And even objet to bang with xylophone sticks and create your own original cacophony:

(with your head to the side, standing on one leg and with the sticks wrong way around of course...)

If all that happens well then I guess you had a pretty good, rather lucky, extremely fortunate kind of bad day after all.

Surely that has to be more fun than running and throwing balls in a basket!

Especially as have amazing one footed, head to one side, xylaphone (??) talents in family. Who would have guessed!

And love the soba boat. Better than revolving sushi!

That looks like a pretty cool day. Must have been a relief for you guys that all that stuff was on hand to make up for the lack of sports day. Fingers crossed that the rain holds off tomorrow!

I think the day they had could have even been better than sports day... especially with the soba boat that hoots when it arrives! I think that sounds so cool!!

Sitting in the blistering sun have dirt blown into your face isn't always the parents idea of fun but the kids always love their sports day!! Looks like the consulation (???) prize/day was a great one all the same. Your girls always look so happy!
