We're really struggling.
It's not the economy.
Not the rainy season- although that is pretty gloom inducing.
Not our health- well not yet anyway.
We're drowning in raspberries.
The girls are loving it:
I'm not sure if you can tell from the picture but they're out there picking raspberries in the rain- and eating them straight off the vine.
When they do make it inside:
it's raspberries (and a few pilfered blueberries Amy...) for snack time.
raspberry jam (of course!)
And still more raspberries!
Meg and Amy don't weigh their loot but I've picked over 2 kilos so far and there's still so many more to pick...
So spare a thought for us in these hard times....

It's lucky for your shelf space that there is only really one jamming season!! Or is there? Don't tell me you can make jam all year round - you'll need one of those outsheds soon.
Looks delicious!!! : )
um, yummy!!
You're just trying to make us all jealous... raspberries are soooo delicious, can't get fresh ones here for love nor money! I'll send you my fav recipe!
Wow! I can't wait. Our raspberry "bushes" are just babies, so we only got 6/day tops. How long did it take for them to get to the 2kg level?
The jams look super delicious. What do you do with the surplus stock? You seem to be making a lot of jam lately.
oh no! u are in such a "difficult" situation! i'd love to help you out and take some of those off your back. :D hehee i love raspberries. you are so lucky! :D
*holds out her hand and does her best puppy dog face*...
can I have some? please?
gosh, those raspberries look delicious!! We used to pick blackberries right off the shrub and eat them!!
Your family must eat a lot of jam though - or you must give a lot away!! Maybe you could try selling it???
You don't want to do a jam swap do you? I will be making blackberry and apple jam this weekend but I love rasberries. Where did you get the canes?
Oh man I love raspberries! I am completely jealous!
YUM YUM YUM!
SOOOOO wishing I was there!!! Jun and Grammy picked "staw burries" yesterday. MMMMM!
I make litres of jam from Spring (amanatsu) to Autumn (persimmon) and even winter if you count apple preserves. Luckily though we don't have to eat them all- jam is my big payback gift to friends, neighbours, students and random gift bearers.
anchan- thanks a bunch for the recipes- soooo not going to help the diet though- drambuie and raspberries? yummmmm
Xana we're on year three. I bought two canes and then each Spring when the runners come up in weird places I transplant them where I want them. Year one I think we got 6 total, year two I got about a kilo over the season and this year we're swamped. I don't know whether it's related but I don't cut the canes back each Autumn.
What do I do with all the jam? Give it away! I wish I could send out raspberries but I've realised the price of them in the supermarket is probably du to the fact that they perish so quickly after picking you really have to eat them immediately or freeze. Guess you'll all just have to come up and pick your own! ;P
You lucky gal you! Yep Anchan.. she is just trying to make us all envious here... she is in Raspberry haven... Your girls will remember this fun-jam-making-fresh-raspberry-eating time forever.
Sorry I'm late commenting... my husband had me tied up to the bed post.
I am so jealous! Some friends of ours just planted some raspberry bushes and said it will be several years before we get to eat any of the berries. I don't see how one can wait that long!
OMG, both the berries and the jam look amazing. I have not had a raspberry in years.
